The Future of Work

I love this presentation for various reasons. Mainly because it hi-lights the way social media is impacting the way we work…the way businesses run and operate. See, I myself co-work and I’m a fan of places like Blankspaces. I’m not tied to one specific geographic location. So long as I have my laptop with me and my blackberry, I can hop on a webinar and get down to work. I do this from the hotel room if I’m away on travel for a conference. My design team is based out of Seattle and San Diego (I’m in Los Angeles). We collaborate via email and chat. When we connect with clients, we do so via conference call.
When I have a question or I’m looking for inspiration, I turn to Twitter (think crowdsourcing). Sometimes I connect with friends in the LA Tech scene and we co-work. That or we hop on iChat and bounce ideas off of one another (analyzing and critiquing business decisions in a constructive manner).
The beauty of the presentation above is that it hi-lights (rather well) the new business dynamic that new media and technology has created. One that I can relate to and that I’m sure many of you can as well. Which reminds me of a great blog to follow: Workshifting.com.
From the site:
If you work out of coffee shops, hotels, airports and your home every bit as much as the office, workshifting.com is for you. We’ll feature tips, reviews, and opinions about the world of Web commuting (relying on the Web to get work done at any time, from virtually anywere.) That’s what workshifting is all about.
…that, for many, is the future of work!
So, does “workshifting” describe you? How do you and/or your business relate to the future of work?
